Designer's Toolkit

Week 1 - Private Eyes

Picture
Evaluation

After the critique, I realised that I had a couple readability issues with this piece, the logos on the blue background have a slight issue with getting lost with the black eyes behind.
Some logos are also larger than others, the Theatre by the Lake logo is okay like this because it is where the event is being held, but the B&Q Logo definitley does not need to be that large, and something else could have been done with the space it occupies.

In future tasks I definitley need to focus on my heirarchy as all of the main details of this are all condensed into one area, and they do not lead the eyes around the poster well enough.

Week 2 - Life on Mars

Considering this was the first editorial piece I had ever tried my hand at, I was actually pretty happy with how this turned out, there is a few issues with it, such as the body text not exactly being adequate for a magazine spread, and in hindsight I wish that I had set all of the 3 parts of text on the first spread with the curvature of the earth, the fact on the far right just doesn't quite fit the spread properly I like the way I bleeded the images off of the page in the second spread.

In the future, I need to be making more use of planning and thumbnail images, it will help me to get a better idea of what works better where on the page, instead of just putting things straight into the document on the computer, I need to experiment more in the future.

Week 3 - CyanoMTB Mock-ups

I like how the asymmetrical design came out here, but the issues I have are with the symmetrical design, especially the colour choices I made, the red just doesn't look like it fits correctly on the page, maybe blue would have looked better, I just seeed to find it more difficult to work symmetrically, I think this is because technically you only get half of the page to be creative with, and the other side kind of has to follow suit.

Week 4 - CedarWheel

I have a slight issue with consistency across the 3 of these pieces, the colour theme may remain throughout, but the shapes do not, the letterhead and small letter head follow vertical and horizontal lines, whereas the business card follows a diagonal structure, it would have made much more sense to stick to the vertical and horizontal structures that were on the first 2.
